Synopsis

Shahid must leave his home in Jerusalem.

The court has ruled: the house belong to Delphine Lachance, who has just arrived from Montreal and is the sole recognized owner. It is a brutal decision that seals their encounter with rejection and anger.

But on this day of solar eclipse, an inexplicable phenomenon disrupts their confrontation. The souls of their two ancestors resurface, taking them on a dizzying journey through time and space. Possessed by these forgotten lives, Shahid and Delphine travel through the ages, from the Warsaw Ghetto to the Arab-Israeli wars, from the Holocaust to the Nakba. Through these fragments of history, they discover buried pain, forced exile, shattered hopes, and the invisible bonds that connect them across borders and generations.

A poignant tale where the intimate meets the universal, where history shapes destinies and where reconciliation emerges, fragile but possible…

The Play

The play Jerusalem, written and directed by Ismaël Saïdi, premiered in Belgium at the Théâtre de Liège in September 2024. This production, driven by writing that is both contemporary and socially engaged, quickly struck a chord with audiences.

After its launch in Belgium, Jerusalem is now continuing its run in France. It is currently scheduled to play at the Théâtre des Mathurins in Paris, where it will run from September 17 to December 31, 2025. Performances take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m.

On stage, the audience will see Ines Weill-Rochant (alternating with Fiona Lévy) alongside Ismaël Saidi himself. This production, initiated by Lumière in partnership with the Théâtre de Liège, confirms the desire to take this work beyond borders, giving it international visibility.
